The Blogger Tag

Over the past few weeks, I have been working on a little blog rebrand. I started designing a new theme, but quickly hated everything I designed. So instead I opted for an existing theme, that I have modified for my own needs. Rather than, writing a post about my re-brand I thought if would be more fun to complete The Blogger Tag and write about my blogging journey.

How long have you’ve been blogging and why did you start?

Princessdeia stared in 2005, it started as a knitting blog. I use to knit a lot more than I do now. This was before the days of social media, but there were communities online. I joined a few Yahoo knitting groups and notices a lot of fellow knitters blogged about their knitting project.

Jason had brought me a domain and a year’s worth of hosting at the end of 2004. Originally, I wanted to a website to practice coding. But then I installed WordPress and the princessdeia blog was born.

Back then it wasn’t about curated content and blog calenders, more a journal about your knitting. Each evening I would knit and the following day I would take a few photos of my project and write a few words. There was a very strong sense of community. People would host knit-along (where everyone in the group would knit the same project) and share links to their blogs. Or secret pal swaps and local knitting groups.

Is this current blog your first blog?

Technically, no as I use to have a LiveJournal. Although that wasn’t really a blog, more a place for me to rant and post all the answers to those quizzes everyone was obsessed with in the early 2000s!

What would you categorize your blog as?

A Geeky Lifestyle Blogger. I blog about TV shows, geeky experiences in London, coffee! And still occasionally about knitting. I don’t seem to fit many of the moulds for bloggers, I am not a Gaming Blogger or Book Blogger. And although I am London based and blog about my experiences in London. I do not think of myself as a London Blogger.

Is it still the same kind of blog as when you first started?

Most definitely not. When I originally started this blog it was 100% about knitting. My posts varied between updates on my current projects, photos of latest yarn purchases and answers to questionnaires. I guess nowadays the questionnaires would be classed as Blog Tags, but there seemed to always be a questionnaire floating around. Normally related to secret pal swaps or the season/holidays (Like the Seven Random Facts Questionnaire).

Top 3 things about being a blogger!

  1. Definitely, the community.
  2. Friends, some of the fellow knitting bloggers I meet via blogs I have now known for over 10 years.
  3. A record of my life.

What is your favourite kind of post to write?

Well, I love blog tags like this one. But also I love joint content projects, where you all write about the same topic. Back when this was a knitting blog I loved taking part in knit-alongs. But over the years, I joined in other types of joint content projects like Five Friday Fandom. One of these projects I adored the 6 on 6 photo project, as I love seeing people’s interpretations for each colour theme.

What is the hardest post you have ever written and published?

The hardest post I have ever published was either the post after my dad died or the one about my second ectopic pregnancy. I have started writing tons of posts about our experiences during IVF but I have never had the strength to finished then and so they remain unpublished.
