It would make sense for my final post of 2022 to be my review of the year. But yet again, I am writing this review during the first week of January. 2022 was a strange year for me, we started the year still living with protective measures around Covid-19, and slowly we started to venture out more. Stepping out of our comfort zone to eventually travel internationally.
Review of the Year 2022
Highlight – What one great thing happened to you this year.
Being able to travel again and our epic vacation to Los Angeles and Hawaii. The two weeks we spent in America were the absolute highlight of the year!

Surprise – Be it a TV show, film, or game that impressed you the most.
Top Gun: Maverick. I remember watching Top Gun when I was younger and even quoting the movie (I feel the need, the need for speed!), I also remember finding the movie quite sexist, like most action movies from the 1980s. But we decided to see Top Gun: Maverick in the cinema, as it was one of the major summer blockbusters. When I left the cinema, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It was one of my top movies of the year.
New Fandom – Did you gain a new obsession in 2022?
Honestly, I did not gain a new fandom this year. Instead, my obsession with my old fandoms grew. This year, I was too preoccupied with Stranger Things, Bridgerton, House of the Dragon and Star Wars to find a new fandom
The Comeback Kid – Was one of your fandoms rebooted, re-released, or re-imagined.
It has to be House of The Dragon. After the disappointing final season of Game of Thrones, this fandom lost a lot of fans. However, the release of House of the Dragon in 2022 reconfirmed the Game of Thrones franchise as one of the best television programmes.
Still, going strong? – did one TV show have an amazing season ? Or did a book series have a truly impressive release this year ?
The fandom of the summer was definitely Stranger Things. After nearly a three-year hiatus, season four came back with a bang. Splitting the season into two parts meant the show dominated social media over the summer, with memes, TikTok trends, and people voicing their theories. Let’s not forget that Running up that Hill became the summer’s anthem. Proving that Stranger Things is still as popular as ever.
Biggest disappointment of the Year.
For me, it was She-Hulk. As I mentioned before, this show wasn’t for me. After making content for over ten years, I have accepted that I will not love everything Marvel Studios releases. This programme was one of my disappointments in the studio of me.
Event of the year – be it a convention, viewing party, geek girl brunch etc.
Although I did some fun things in 2022, the most fabulous adventure was finally going to Disneyland! Seeing Galaxy’s Edge for myself. Walking around Batuu, getting to pilot the Millennium Falcon, riding Rise of the Resistance (it is like being in a Star Wars movie), and building a lightsaber. Having a drink in Oga’s Cantina. The list goes on.

What are you looking forward to next year?
So far, the only definite plan on my calendar for 2023 is Star Wars Celebrations in April. That is undoubtedly the one thing I am looking forward to next year. However, I hope to travel more and have more geeky adventures in London.
